RISE UP 2.0 Startup Conclave

RISE UP 2.0 Startup Conclave, from February 19-21, 2025, bringing together entrepreneurs, students, and industry 
stakeholders to foster collaboration in the agriculture and spice sectors. The three-day event featured the NavUdyam 
program with an Idea Hackathon and Startup Orientation. The Udayam 2.0 Agri Expo showcased 70+ entrepreneurs, farm 
tools, bio-inputs, and innovative spice products. The Udyamitha Business Meet highlighted ready-to-market technologies,
while the Udyamika Conclave focused on women entrepreneurs.

We’re thrilled to share the success of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Value Addition in Fruits and 
Vegetables, held on 29-30 October 2024 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode!
This program was organized under the Agribusiness Incubator (ABI) initiative, providing hands-on support to aspiring 
agri-entrepreneurs.

With 21 enthusiastic participants, the program featured sessions by Dr. Elizebeth Joseph (Assistant Professor, KVK, 
Kannur, Kerala Agricultural University) on innovative value addition techniques, market strategies, and sustainable 
business practices to elevate local products.

Thanks to Dr. Sajesh and Dr. Maneesha (Co-PIs of the scheme NAIF I& II) for coordinating this transformative journey, 
which concluded with Dr. Sheeja TE, Head of the Division of Crop Improvement & Biotechnology and ABI in charge, 
extending her best wishes to the participants as they embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Spiisry actively participated in the technology day cum 96^th ICAR foundation day celebrations at Dr. C Subramanian Symposia Hall, NASC Complex, PUSA, New Delhi. Showcased various technologies of the institute and value-added products of incubatee startups in the program. The exhibition was organized during 15-16 July 2024.

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Hon’ble Minister of agriculture and farmers welfare, government of India inaugurated the events. Online training program in collaboration with MANAGE, Hyderabad

The agribusiness incubator, ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research organizing 5 days online training program (10-14 June 2024) in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE, Hyderabad.)

This collaborative training program on innovations in production, value addition and marketing of spices in India is organizing to develop capacities of agricultural extension professionals in the emerging areas and help them to improve their performance in implementing agricultural extension programs and activities.
The collaborative training program is proposed with the following objectives:
1. To inculcate better technical and functional competencies on spices sector among extension professionals
2. Improve the research and documentation capacity of extension professionals in spices sector
This five-day training program will discuss various topics in crop improvement, production, post-harvest processing technologies and marketing of spices in detail.

XVI Agricultural Science Congress Recognizes IISR with 1st Position Pavilion Award

16^th Agricultural Science Congress (ASC) organized by the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) from 9-13th October 2023 at the Le’ Meridien, Kochi. Secretary to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dr Himanshu Pathak delivered concluding remarks. He said that India’s agriculture has bright future with more youngsters coming to the sector with great fervour.

The Congress discussed 10 thematic areas, including all issues related to agriculture and allied areas and sustainability issues on land and water, agricultural production systems, products, agricultural machinery, climate action, economics, renewable or alternative energy, precision farming, alternative farming systems, coastal agriculture, next-generation technologies, etc. As many as 114 papers were presented at the Congress.

With a comprehensive agenda, the 16^th ASC featured six plenary lectures by prominent figures in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. The Congress also hosted three panel discussions and four symposiums covering an array of topics.

The Congress witnessed the convergence of over 1500 delegates from India and abroad. An Agri Expo held on the side-line of the event showcased innovative agricultural technologies of public and private sector research institutes, universities, agro-industries, extension agencies and NGOs.

Showcased different technologies and value-added products in the stall and won the 1st position Pavilion Award.

Kisan Seva Kendra- Bio Input Resource Centre Inaugurated

Kisan Seva Kendra, an outlet for the sale of farm bio-inputs of ICAR Institutes. The unit was inaugurated by Dr. Abdul Hameed E, Former Scientist, Kerala State Council for Science & Technology Education (KSCSTE)- CWRDM.

The facility intends to support small and marginal farmers across the country by facilitating easy access to ICAR technology based agro inputs. This will be a single point which will provide products as well as scientific advisory to the farmers on its application.

Value Addition for Income Generation in Agriculture (VAIGA) is the sole and most prestigious venture from the Agriculture Department under the Government of Kerala since 2016. VAIGA extends its focus upon current and emerging national and international drifts in technological advancements related to profitable agricultural developments. This includes product diversification, processing, value addition, and marketing. The venture also offers immense opportunities in building a bridge between local-national agencies, entrepreneurs, and experts in Agri-value addition & processing. The marvelous exhibition conducted as a part of the EXPO offers an excellent opportunity for the participants and the business-to-business meet conducted as part of the event offers an interface between national/international agencies and entrepreneurs in the Agri-value chain.

The exhibition segment on VAIGA 2023 focus on showcasing value addition in the field of agriculture. Spiisry exhibited various value-added products and institute technologies at the event. The stall got prize for the excellent interaction made in the programme.

Spiisry participated in National Horticulture Fair 2023

Under the theme of “Innovative Horticulture for Self-Reliance”, the ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR) organized National Horticulture Fair 2023 to showcase or demonstrate latest technologies such as vegetable, flower and medicinal crop varieties for import substitution, pollination in protected cultivation, leaf curl virus resistant chilli varieties, carotenoid content rich marigold varieties, flower waste utilization, terrace gardening solutions for urban horticulture, production technologies for exotic fruits such as dragon fruit and avocado and cost-effective traps for management of invasive pests, etc. The event was organized for the benefit of horticulturists and other stakeholders across India. The event happened at IIHR campus, Hesearghatta, Bengaluru during 22-25, February, 2023.

Spiisry participated at the Poopoli 2023: International Flower Fest

IISR- Spiisry participated at the Poopoli 2023: International Flower Fest from January 1st to 15th 2023. Over a period of 15 days, thousands of visitors including farmers, students, researchers, elected representatives and general public visited the exhibition. Spices, millets and other agro products were displayed and sold through the stall.

An interesting corner was also set up to introduce the visitors to different types of rhizomes of turmeric and ginger to clear misconceptions in their identification. Kasturi turmeric, black turmeric, black ginger, mango ginger and inputs suitable for spices cultivation invited keen interest & demand from the visitors.

Festival organized by merchants of the Urban Wholesale Agricultural Market at Vengeri 
in Kozhikode from 22nd December 2022 to 2nd January 2023. It featured exhibitions, flower 
shows, seminars, vegetable and fruit markets, food courts, amusement parks, and cultural 
programmes. Spiisry participated in the event with different value-added products.

On the occasion of Horticulture Value Chain programme, Spiisry has participated in the Horticulture exhibition organized at VAMNICOM, Pune on 1^st November 2022. The programme has been inaugurated by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Hon’ble Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar along with Minister of agriculture Shri. Abdul Sathar and Minister of Horticulture Shri. Sandipanrao Bhumare, Govt. of Maharashtra. Hon’ble Ministers along with other dignitaries have also visited the Spiisry stall at the exhibition. Spiisry presented a spice gift basket to the union minister on the occasion. ICAR-IISR stall at exhibition have displayed posters of various technologies, literatures in the form of technical folders, books and samples for different stakeholders. Around 500 visitors such as farmers, students, private organizations etc have visited the Spiisry stall in the exhibition.

Sugarcane Breeding Institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research is organized CaneFest, a two-day sugarcane farmers’ festival at its premises in Coimbatore on 23 & 24 September 2022. The event has been named as Kannal Vizha in Tamil.

The 110-year-old ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore in association with Society for Sugarcane Research & Development (SSRD), organized this event for the southern region to showcase the sugarcane technologies developed at the Institute and elsewhere for the benefit of sugarcane growers and other stakeholders.

Farmers, farm women, rural youth, agri-preneurs, industrialists, sugar factory personnel, officers from agriculture and allied government departments, NGOs, scientists, policy makers and students from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra were participated in the two-day event.

The 4th Edition of India’s premiere International Workshop and Exhibition of Value Addition, Processing and Income Generation Technologies, Innovations and Opportunities in Agri-business , is organised from 4 to 7 January, 2020 at Thekkinkad Maidanam, Thrissur, Kerala. VAIGA is the acronym for Value Addition for Income Generation in Agriculture. The theme of VAIGA 2020 is “Sustainable Development through Agripreneurship”.

VAIGA is organised by Government of Kerala with the support of Government of India, Central and State Government research institutions, public sector undertakings and other organizations in the field of agricultural development. VAIGA has made positive impact in the agribusiness ecosystem of Kerala by moulding and developing thousands of agripreneurs using the most modern innovative technologies for value addition.

The M S Swaminathan Research Foundation celebrated its 30th anniversary on 7th August 2019at MSSRF premises in Chennai. The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru Edappadi K Palaniswami and the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru O Panneerselvam presided and inaugurated the International Conference on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Strengthening Science for Climate Resilience. Spiisry has presented a spice basket to Padmavibhushan Prof. M S Swaminathan during the event.

“SPIISRY” – A novel initiative of ICAR-IISR launched

ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research launched a new initiative christened “SPIISRY” in its
continuing quest to support primary producers of spices while bringing good quality spices and
allied products to the consumers. The “SPIISRY” was inaugurated by Dr. T Janakiram, Assistant
Director General, (HS II) ICAR on 12 July 2019. Inaugurating the aesthetically designed outlet of
the venture, Dr. Janakiram said that such innovations leveraging the linkages of the institute with
the primary producers and entrepreneurs shall essay a new chapter in the development of the
agricultural commodity retail marketing sector through facilitating consumer access to high quality
produce authenticated by the research institution.

Dr. K Nirmal Babu, Director ICAR IISR, Dr. R N Pal, former Assistant Director General (Plantation
Crops), Dr. V S Korikanthimath, Former Director ICAR CCARI, Goa, Dr. Srikanth Kulkarni, Former
Professor and Head Plant Pathology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad and other
dignitaries graced the occasion.
The outlet is conceived as an outlet for good quality spices and allied value added products sourced
from verified primary producers, incubates of ICAR IISR and other sister institutes. More than 50
products is being made available at the outlet at present. Apart from spices, spice powders and well
ness products from spices, technology inputs for farming of spices and other crops can also be
purchased from the outlet. The product range and diversity is expected to increase tremendously in a
few months through collaboration with other ICAR institutes and their incubatees.

The SPIISRY shall be the torchbearer for the efforts of research institutions in creating a direct
interface between primary producers of spices and the ultimate consumers addressing the concerns of
quality, sustainability of production practices and food safety.
